THe Hunger Games (BOok 1)By: Suzanne Collins
Genres: Adventure, Dystopian, Romance, and Books - Movies For Ages: 13+ Although 16 year old Katniss Everdeen may not have an easy life, she can at least count on its routine. Hunt with her best friend Gale to provide for their families, trade in the black market of District 12, her home, and go to school. But one thing that she can never predict is the reaping of the Hunger Games, a grisly event in which a boy and girl tribute must be sent from all 12 districts to kill each other in an arena as a reminder of their powerlessness against the country's relentless rulers. When Katniss' sister is reaped and Katniss steps up to take her place, she sets in motion a series of events that will change her and her country forever if she can find the courage to win the Hunger Games. If you haven't read this book already you definitely should. It is a real eye opener to the complexity of the human race, from horrific killing to the beauty of love. With a protagonist that sees the world from a different perspective than most, The Hunger Games is a rich suspense story that is impossible to tear yourself away from even after your eyes have strayed from the last page. I would rate this book: A Must Read 4.5 Stars (simply because there is a bit too much death and sadness to make it a "fun" read) |
