Sense and SensibilityBy: Jane Austen
Genres: Classics, Romance, and Books - Movies For Ages: 14+ In the late eighteenth century, the Dashwood sisters move to a country cottage due to a low income, but find their new lives to be much richer than they anticipated. This book is full of love in all shapes and sizes, but it's not overly gushy or romantic, allowing readers to truly focus on the intricacies of the storyline and characters. Even though the language was complex, I got used to it, and only had to look up a word once or twice. It was also a lot funnier than I expected. Society back then decreed that everyone must act civil and polite, but these characters hide rudeness and hilarity behind their fine words. This book reminds me of the TV show Downton Abbey, because it is very dramatic and tells of the coming of age of young girls. I would recommend this to anyone who feels like a challenging yet fun read. I would rate this book: A Must Read 4.5 Stars: * * * * .5 |
