How to Train Your Dragon (Book 1)By: Cressida Cowell
Genres: Adventure, Fantasy and Books - Movies For Ages: 8-12 As a rite of passage, all young members of the Hairy Hooligan Viking Tribe of the isle of Berk must catch and train a dragon in order to be fully accepted into the community. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, future leader of the tribe, is having many difficulties. His dragon, a small and pathetic dragon named Toothless, refuses to obey him, while Hiccup's bullying classmates have already made tremendous progress. But when an enormous dragon lands on the island, Hiccup and Toothless must call on all their resourcefulness and teamwork to protect their tribe. There was never a bland moment in this book. I was always left laughing at Toothless' arrogance and the comical actions of the vikings. I like books where the main character has a pet however, usually pets are cheesy animals. Before I read this book, I thought it would be better with an animal like that, but I realized later that the aspect of this book that makes it unique is that the pet in this story is an annoying, fire-breathing dragon who is not cuddly in the least. This book shows us the untameable side of nature, and was a funny and enjoyable read. I would rate this book: A Must Read 5 Stars: * * * * * |
