An Inspector CallsBy: J. B. Priestley
Genres: Classics, Mystery and Books - Movies For Ages: 14+ The Birling family is having a peaceful evening celebrating the engagement of their daughter, when a sinister knock sounds at the door. It is an inspector, who tells them that at the infirmary that very night, a young woman has committed suicide. As teh play progresses, he uncovers each of the parts that they played in her death. What an interesting book. The author actually wrote it in the style of a play, with stage directions and all, which leaves the audience a better picture of what is occurring. He also writes very cleverly, with a true hold on the plot and understanding of the characters. What makes this book truly unique however is his unabashed uncovering of the seemingly perfect upper-class, and how are responsible for your affect on people, no matter your lot in life. I would rate this book: A Must Read 5 Stars: * * * * * If you have read this book and enjoyed it, check out my extensive review on it here (warning: SPOILERS!) Extensive "An Inspector Calls" Review |
